FuManChew Chili Pepper Water began in a small village on the Big Island of Hawaii, Makapala Kohala. Kohala is the birthplace of the great King Kamehameha, the legendary Chief that unified all of the Hawaiian islands into a single Kingdom. Chew enjoyed fresh Hawaiian Chili Peppers with his meal and would add other fresh ingredients to enhance the flavor. He married a Hawaiian maiden named Hume from Hawi, her ancestry goes back eleven generations, from ancient Waipo Valley to Kohala. Together they blended ingredients from their garden to create a uniquely flavored sip or dip sauce to compliment their meals.
Spicy, tangy, full of exotic flavors, this sauce is often used as a marinate for all types of meat, poultry, and fish. Islanders enjoy chili pepper water chilled, and often will sip it straight from a shot glass.
Although FuManChew Chili Pepper Water has been shared with family and friends for generations, the recipe is considered a family treasure. We are delighted to share with you our family secret.
